Year 3

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This term has been very busy so we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our students for the hard work and effort they have shown so far.

In English, we have been focusing on narratives. Students have had the opportunity to explore this writing genre using figurative language as a writing tool. Students have been developing comprehension skills through sequencing and identifying the main idea of a text.

In maths, students had the opportunity to explore reading and recording time, they created their own clock faces to aid them when telling the time. In our geometry unit, students described and classified 2D shapes according to their features. They sketched two-dimensional shapes including special quadrilaterals. Students also identified unit fractions including halves, quarters, thirds and fifths, and their multiples to complete a whole. We looked at number lines to count by unit fractions and compare the size of different fractions.

In integrated studies, students have been focusing on history. They had the opportunity to explore different celebrations from around the world. Students have developed a better understanding of how celebrations are a uniting force for some cultures and religions. With their exploration of Harmony Day, Anzac Day, and Australia Day students gained more awareness of the historical development of Australia. We have also looked at the different ways we celebrate the cultural diversity of Australia.

In ICT, students showed great independence with their individual projects they were able to complete using Power Point. They became more familiar with the tools of this program as the term progressed. It was very exciting to see them show initiative in their own learning.

In Art, students created paintings using primary and secondary colours. Students were able to create overlapping shapes using water colours.

Reminders: NAPLAN will take place in Week 4 – Week 5 (11th May- 21st May). Over the holiday break we will be setting NAPLAN practice tasks from Mathletics and Reading Express.

Have a safe holiday break. We are looking forward to another busy and engaging term.

Kind Regards,
Ms Cilek & Ms Esra
